Last but not least! Tampere26 application’s cultural programme is based on a broad notion of culture, and the programme itself lists 115 different projects. We have already presented you many projects, but it’s still time to look into one.
Today’s cultural project presentation is about world famous, loved by all – Moomins! And the project is called “Moomin on Ice”.
The Moomin on Ice ice ballet opens Tampere26 festive year by blending top sport with performing arts to celebrate the Moomins’ 80th anniversary. This ice ballet fuses world-class ice-skating and ice hockey stars with music to be composed by Tuomas Kantelinen on the beloved Tove Jansson stories via Moomin on Ice. Uros Live – a digitally advanced indoor stadium for sports and culture with 13000 seats – will host the event.
Together with the Moomins towards equality
The Finnish-international production team ensures a wonderful new art experience for the arenas and a production ready to tour the world. The project partakes in the pan-European research & development project Quality through Equality studying the effect of culture in fostering equality. Moomins bring thousands of international culture tourists to Tampere every year. The stories are loved across cultures and generations.
“In the famous Moomin stories by Tove Jansson, equality and tolerance go hand in hand – such was the lived vision of their author. Equal participation in cultural life as an author and experiencer are human rights and cultural rights. This is an important dimension in guaranteeing freedom of expression for all and promoting creativity. The legacy of the Moomins contributes to an important spiritual and creative connection for all members and visitors of the community”, comments Suvi Leinonen, Producer of the Moomin on Ice.
Moomin on Ice project’s partners are Tampere Hall, Kantelinen Company Ltd, Moomin Characters Oy Ltd, Finnish Figure Skating Association, UROS LIVE arena, Melissa A. Thompson (CA) and The ILMC (UK)
